Screen Savers

In ancient times when computer interfaces were text and computer storage could be measured in kilobytes, there was a very serious problem in the world of computers. Any static pictures left on the screen for long periods of time would slowly burn the images into the monitor leaving an ugly outline for the rest of eternity!

The solution to this problem? Screensavers! These were simple programs which would idle in the background of the computer while it was in use and then pop up to display a moving animation on the screen to prevent any still image from being burned into the monitor.

Eventually Microsoft jumped in on the usefulness of these programs, and beginning with Windows 3.1 every copy of Windows came bundled with a collection of fancy animated screensavers at your fingertips. Now over time as the world began to move forward Microsoft started slowly removing these classic screensavers of our childhood, replacing them with flashier and less cool ones.

The purpose of this web page is to preserve all the cool old screensavers we grew up with on the early versions of Windows, so you can again relive the awesomeness of these screen savers on your PC!
